I know, I know, that’s a tough question. Answers may even be biased. One car that really stands out to the public eye for its reliability according to sources is the BMW 1 series’ second generation, manufactured from 2011 to 2019. TopSpeed rated the BMW 1 series the most reliable German car from the last decade. Even noted it “has received a lot of praise from owners and even mechanics for its reliable, luxurious and price-aware package”. Now the second generation of the BMW 1 series had a variety of engines, including the in-line three, in-line four, and in-line six turbocharged engines. Maybe the improved design and fixing of the first generational problems is what deemed the second generation reliable.

Several of the most prominent automotive brands in the world are found in Germany's automobile sector. There is no doubt that German cars have the looks and design features that people praise them for, but do they actually produce reliable vehicles is what concerns the majority of the people in the market for a German car. That being said, according to sources, here are a few other deemed to be reliable and dependable German vehicles:

The Audi A3, Audi’s smallest sedan, equipped with a 201 hp turbocharged 2-liter four cylinder compact engine. Owners of the sporty small sedan compare the driving experience to some of Audi’s bigger SUV’s, everything down to driving comfortability to the actual performance of the vehicle. Many owners have even gotten 150,000 + miles out of their little sedan.

While there is a solid amount of choices for a dependable German car in 2024, one brand stands head above shoulders, was also top of a dependability study in 2022, and back at it again in 2024. Porsche's flagship sports car, the 911, which happened to come out on top of the 2022 U.S vehicle dependability study as the most reliable car across the board. Very impressive for a company putting out not nearly as many cars as other leading brands. The German cars seem to dominate the top of any reliability/ dependability study.

The most common sentence heard when speaking about German cars is “they’re too expensive to fix” or “they’re a money pit.”. Yes, they can be, but they only end up being if regular and preventative maintenance is ignored. Regular maintenance is crucial for any vehicle, but especially German cars. Following a recommended service guide can help prevent many common issues on these cars. Whatever model you decide to go with, it will take care of you as long as you take care of it.
